Sexuality and Breast Cancer

The course is inclusive of the potential experiences and considerations of women, trans men, nonbinary individuals, and multiple gender expressions of people assigned female at birth. We don't address the experience of cisgender men or people assigned male at birth in this training.

This course will provide an overview of breast cancer and associated treatment options.  Then the instructors will describe the impact of breast cancer on sexual function and highlight health disparities and, specifically, the similarities and difference experience by LGBTQIA+ communities.  The instructors will present reasons why both healthcare providers and clients are hesitant to discuss sexual health and a call to action for the healthcare provider (OTs) to bring up the topic first.  Lastly, the course will discuss interventions OTs can use to enable participation in sexual and intimate occupations which can be limited due to impact of breast cancer.
